Rolex Cellini
When you think of Rolex, the Submariner, Daytona, or Datejust immediately come to mind. Yet one of the Swiss brand’s most refined and understated lines is hidden behind a name inspired by the Renaissance: Cellini.
Classic timepieces crafted from precious materials, often overlooked by the general public.
Rolex watches that don’t look like Rolex: a collection long neglected, but finally beginning to receive the recognition it deserves!
A tribute to Benvenuto Cellini
Created in the 1960s, the collection pays tribute to Benvenuto Cellini, the sculptor, goldsmith, and master of the Italian Renaissance of the 16th century.
Unlike the sporty Oyster models, Rolex Cellini watches are designed as high-end dress watches, very often in yellow, white, or rose gold or platinum (very rarely in steel) with harmonious, elegant lines.
One could say that the Geneva maison truly let its creativity run free with this collection, venturing off the beaten path with bold shapes, far removed from classic designs!
The classic round
A true timeless model, it has crossed decades without showing a single wrinkle. The 5112 remains one of the most visible references on the market and, in my opinion, one of the most classic and easy-to-wear. Its variations are numerous, with some even rare such as the jubilee dial, the red, or the grey/eggplant version… With or without Roman numerals, there’s something for every taste, always offered in a perfect 32 mm diameter (excluding the crown)!

Rare Rolex Cellini Model
1. Rolex King Midas
An iconic piece launched in 1962, the King Midas takes its name from the famous mythological figure Midas, who could turn everything he touched into gold—a perfect metaphor for this watch, crafted entirely in 18-carat solid gold. Its design was entrusted to Gérald Genta, who gave it its distinctive asymmetrical shape. Today, it has become a true legend.

2. Cellini Tank
Among rectangular models, some watches stand out for their so-called Tank shape. Several versions exist, but the most sought-after remain those with a wooden or blue dial. Numerous variations were produced, each more surprising than the last — much like the clous de Paris (guilloché) cases.
Reference 4105: Dating from the 1970s, this 26 x 35 mm watch features a striking black tapestry-pattern dial. It is nicknamed Ligne douce by Rolex.
Reference 4127 Jumbo: Manufactured in the 1980s, this is the largest size among Cellini models with a bracelet. Its Jumbo dimensions of 24.5 x 34 mm sometimes house a rare variant: the wooden dial.

3. Rolex Pocket Watch
Although Rolex is world-renowned for its wristwatches, the Maison also produced remarkable pocket watches showcasing traditional craftsmanship. In the 1980s, a range of Rolex pocket watches was revived within the Cellini collection — a true renaissance of classic watchmaking.
A tribute to the roots of traditional horology, at a time when this type of timepiece was almost forgotten. Several variations appeared, featuring blue or coral dials, and cases in elliptical, round, or octagonal shapes.

Vintage Rolex Cellini watches are not timepieces for those who follow the crowd. They appeal to enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone seeking a different kind of Rolex. In a market dominated by sports watches, these elegant pieces serve as a reminder that the Geneva-based Maison also masters the art of the dress watch.
